Fitt, Francis Arthur - Francis Fitt, a gardener from the Codicote Road, served in the 1st Battalion, Hertfordshire Regiment. He was wounded in France in August 1916. He survived the war and died in 1970. His brother Ernest was killed in action in 1915.
Flint, Alfred Joseph - Alfred was the younger brother of Thomas (below), son of Alfred and Harriet. He was born in Welwyn on 10th November 1897. Before the war he worked as a Butcher’s Errand Boy and lived in Fore Street (now the High Street). In October 1915 he went to Caterham and joined the Grenadier Guards. In December he embarked at Southampton to join the 2nd Battalion, which he arrived at on Christmas Day. In July 1917 he was wounded in action in Belgium and spent 35 days in a Military Hospital in Margate. On recovering and after some time in the Reserves he was transferred back to the front with the 3rd Battalion, where was again wounded and twice gassed in 1918. He arrived back in England in October 1918 and was in hospital until November. He was demobilised in February 1919.
Flint, Thomas Henry - Thomas Flint was one of the few Welwyn men who went to sea, serving in the Royal Navy. He was born in Welwyn on October 27th 1890 to Alfred, a labourer, and Harriet Flint. They lived in various places around the High Street and Mimram Road, but Thomas enlisted well before the war in 1910 and in 1911 he was an Able Seaman aboard Torpedo Boat No.8 at Sheppey. During the war years he served aboard HMS Parker, part of the Grand Fleet in the North Sea and fought at a number of engagements including the Battle of Jutland as well as HMS Sandhurst, a Destroyer Depot Ship. Thomas was demobilised in 1919 having married Bessie Brown in Welwyn the year before. He died at home in Welwyn Garden City in 1939.

Furlong, William - These men, presumably brothers, gave their addresses in 1918 as Mill Lane. Alan served in the Royal Field Artillery and William served with the
1st Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment.
