‘...preserving Welwyn’s history on film for over 50 years…’

Home About us Contact Our Archive Films Terms & Conditions

For over 50 years the Welwyn Film Record Society has been recording events around Welwyn and producing an annual film, shown during the Festival week and at various other times. From the early years when footage was taken on cine film to today’s digital technology this has created a unique historical archive of a Hertfordshire community.

For long term residents of Welwyn these films can invoke many memories, good and not so good of times gone by, whilst newer villagers get to see Welwyn’s  development  into what is now around them.

From the changes which have occurred in the High Street to the generations of children in the Festival Parade, and from new houses being built to old houses being demolished there is something to interest everyone in our annual films.

Whilst it is not our policy to offer our annual films for sale, we do occasionally produce special issues, which are available for purchase.

We have filmed Welwyn Festival events since its inception over 40 years ago. Some of the children marching in the first parades are now able to see their own children enjoying the same !

Forthcoming Film Shows

Unfortunately, due to current Government restrictions in light of the Covid-19 outbreak, we are unable to offer any film shows until further notice. Current restrictions are also hampering our efforts to gather film clips of this time.

If you have taken any film of recent village events which you would be willing to share, please contact us.
